Games I’ve been spending the holidays with

I love a fantasy game that breaks away from Tolkien-style Orcs and Elves. This does so with a Souls-like game structure and solid FPS mechanics.

This is one of the more beautiful games I’ve played on my Steam Deck OLED. It’s got fun physics puzzles that prompt you to create solutions. It has a save game system that works at any point, so I never feel like I’m wasting my time with it.

JETT has been a game I’ve wanted to play for a long time. It really nails a slow-burn approach to world-building and play. At another point in my life when I would spend a lot of time deep in one game it would be great for me. Right now, I bounced off it quickly.

Spelunky is one of my favourite games of all time, and I remember playing NES games as a child, so it’s no surprise that I adore UFO 50. I’ve been slowly working my way through the list of 50 games and finding my favourites.

It is a game that wants to teach the player about how probability works rather than how the human brain feels like it should. It nails the assignment.

Simogo has always made great games and has never settled at making the exact game over and over. An invaluable piece of game development history. Their most recent game Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is high on my must play list.

This is my video game comfort food that is perfectly designed to teach players seamlessly and then provide an engaging challenge from start to finish. It is one of the easiest games to recommend to anyone. I’m very happy to be diving back in over the summer holidays.

Fast-paced and always fun to play. I spent 100+ hours with this a decade ago and was sucked all the way back in with the recent release of Update 100.

Clever puzzles in a pretty package. The story wrapped around everything can be ignored because the puzzles are just that good. I could not put it down once I started.

I’m normally a sucker for skateboarding games and I’ve been waiting for the release of Skate Story for a long time. I’ve been staying with Skate Story less for the skate systems and more for how cool it looks and sounds. It reminds me of my time with Sayonara Wild Hearts.
