in no particular order…

A short game about boss battles in games with some really nice pixel art. It was another lunch break game for me. I appreciated the game for its simple spotlight on game structure in “Souls-like” games. It says its piece and wraps up without too much fuss.

Another short narrative experience with minimal interactions. Heavy on mood and style. I enjoyed the unique look and the surrealist bent. The motion of the sprite animations keeps everything feeling alive and kinetic throughout.

An Australian indie game I just want to support. It might be too simple for some but it is full of heart. A good game for a younger audience. The launch trailer is especially charming.

I called out ElecHead in the previous Game Pile because of my excitement with the release of Öoo. Nama Takahashi builds very clever and well structured puzzle platforming games. And I’ve once again enjoyed this all the way through. Play Öoo if you have the chance.

Explore virtual spaces and memories of aliens in this mystery of a web game. It feels like a game out of time, completely different to other games of this moment. I’ve really been drawn in by the look, feel and strangeness of the world of Corru Observer. All it requires is your time and curiosity. I still don’t quite know what is going on, but I want to find out more.

I saw this game had its release on mobile this week and was reminded how good it was to play and how beautiful it looks. It’s a game where you decipher languages and then solve puzzles that test your understanding. I might need to replay it someday soon.

I was watching some promotional video for the new The Rogue Prince of Persia, and the developers mentioned they had wanted to capture the original spirit of the series. I want to understand what they could mean so I’ve started the process of trying to complete the original MS-DOS game. The 60 minute time limit is a really refreshing way for me to only play the game in single chunks too.

A web mashup of rock paper scissor mechanics in a territory capture game. Simple concept that was fun to explore, especially with the progression of level layouts. Give it a go on your next lunch break.
